ELDH condemns death-threats against Fabio Marcelli

The European Association of Lawyers for Democracy and World Human Rights (ELDH) strongly condemns the death threats directed against lawyer Fabio Marcelli, Co-President of our member organisation, the Centre for Research and Elaboration for Democracy (CRED).

Fabio Marcelli has been at the forefront of exposing crimes committed against the Palestinian people and defending international law, democracy and human rights. Threats against him constitute an unacceptable attempt to intimidate and silence those who stand for justice and accountability.

ELDH recalls the UN Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers, particularly Principles 16 and 17, which require governments to protect lawyers from intimidation and ensure their safety when threatened as a result of their professional activities.

We call upon the Italian authorities to ensure Fabio Marcelli’s safety, effectively investigate these threats and hold those responsible accountable.

ELDH expresses its unwavering solidarity with Fabio Marcelli and our member organisation CRED.

We reaffirm our commitment to the struggle against genocide, to the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, and to the defence of international law and human rights.

Intimidation will not silence solidarity.
