Our two member organizations in Turkey, Progressive Lawyers Association (CHD) and Lawyer Association of Freedom (ÖHD) have agreed with the Union of Bar Associations in Turkey (TTB) to conduct a fundraising campaign specifically for lawyers. If they survived and are not incapacitated, many of them are prevented from practicing their legal profession due to destruction of their law offices.
In addition to the general needs of all earthquake victims, lawyers are concerned with restoring the working capacity of their offices and the administration of justice as a whole, of which they are an important element. This is especially true for lawyers working for workers and victims of human rights violations. In this respect, they cannot expect any support from the government or even from large aid organizations.
Please donate to one of the two special accounts of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations set up for this purpose, or to the ELDH bank account.
